The PNG to JPG converter turns an image from PNG into JPG — usually shrinking the file size noticeably. PNG stores images losslessly and is often heavy, especially for photos or screenshots; JPG compresses the image and, for photos, produces a file several times lighter with virtually no visible difference.

Converting to JPG is useful when a PNG is too heavy to email, upload to a website, or attach to a form with size limits, or when a service only accepts JPG/JPEG. For photos and scans, JPG is the optimal choice; for logos, icons and images with a transparent background, it’s better to keep PNG, since JPG doesn’t support transparency (transparent areas turn white).
